Iran short film ‘Genesis’ grabs New Yorker award

Iran short film ‘Genesis’ grabs award at the 21st Brooklyn Film Festival in New York.

Iranian short film ‘Genesis’ has received an award at the 21st edition of the Brooklyn Film Festival (BFF) in the US.

Directed by Abtin Mozaffari, the short film won a Spirit Award for experimental films from the New Yorker event.

The 10-minute flick is a fantasy short film with a critical point of view about the horrible situation in Syria.

"This is the first episode of my episodic film and I'm going to make the next three episodes. In this film, you will see a container and the story of the container will be told in the second episode," Mozaffari said.

Born in 1980, Mozaffari lives in Tehran and holds Bachelor of Cinema from Tehran’s Soureh University. He is a film director, editor, supervisor of visual effects, sound designer, script writer and animator.

The 63-minute Iran-US production ‘Ice Cream’ by Saba Riazi also grabbed a Spirit Award for Feature Narrative films at the Brooklyn festival.

The other representative of Iran at the festival was the 94-minute ‘Golnesa’ directed by Sattar Chamani-Gol.

The BFF is an independent film festival held every June in Brooklyn, New York.

Started in 1998, its mission is to discover, expose, and promote independent filmmakers while drawing worldwide attention to Brooklyn as a center for cinema.

The 21st edition of the BFF was held on June 1-10, 2018.
